Life Estimation of Power Electronic Components in Electric Vehicle for Vibration Loads

Vibration plays a significant role in the performance and failure of a component or assembly. Severity of the vibration depends on several parameters including source of vibration and position of the component assembled in vehicle. Power electronic components (PEC) are the brain of electric vehicle (EV). Multiple power electronics are used in EV to perform various functions like to convert, control, and regulate the electrical energy. Due to its complexity in assembling small-size electronics with modules of large dimensions and huge mass, the effects of random vibrational loads transferred to PEC must be analyzed over a wide frequency range. The main intent of this study is to develop a robust Finite Element methodology to validate the PEC for fatigue failures due to road loads with better test correlation leading to shorter design cycle.
