A Dual Receiver and Inherent CC-CV Operated WRIPT EV Charging System with High Misalignment Tolerance Couplers

This article proposes a dual receiver and inherent automatic CC-CV charging, features-based Wireless Resonant Inductive Power Transfer (WRIPT) EV charging system for high misalignment tolerance couplers. For the dual receiver with high misalignment tolerance coupling; two square coils are used on the Receiver (Rx) side and a Double ‘D’ (DD) coil is used on the Transmitter (Tx) side. In an actual working environment, the coupler architecture undergoes various possible misalignments and some rare possible misalignments, which affect the Power Transfer Efficiency (PTE) of the WRIPT EV charging system. This investigation deals by considering parameters for comparative analysis of the possible misalignments are; airgap distance, coupling factor, Self-inductance of the Tx and Rx coils, and Mutual inductance, concerning possible misalignment parameters. Then, by considering the load variations, dependencies of coupling architecture, and resonant frequency of the WRIPT system, it is important to provide the battery charging with the desired CC-CV charging mode. Hence, the inherent CC-CV output characteristics of resonant compensator with dual receiver coil are developed in the secondary onboard system for the 3.3 kW power capacity prototype. The CC followed by CV output mode can be achieved for battery charging with high misalignment tolerance without the need for an extra DC-DC chopper and its complicated control strategy. By supplying fixed control frequency Zero-Phase Angle (ZPA) condition and Zero-Voltage Switching (ZVS) soft switching was achieved.
