Coupled Inductor Based SIDO-Buck Converter with Self-Adaptive Digital PWM Control for 12V/24V On-Board Lighting and Dashboard System for 48V-EV

This paper analyses the CI-SIDO based Buck converter for continuous current with regulated rated voltage for lighting loads and dashboard sensors for an on-board EV system. In the existing lighting unit, individual parallel converters at board level faces the problem of individual conversion, footprint space occupancy and inefficient stability. The proposed CI-SIDO Buck converter is designed for the rating of 12V with a capability of 75Watts and 24V with a capability of 125 Watts providing a line of voltage to multiple loads of 12V and 24V range. The converter under consideration is controlled by a digital PWM with an upgraded control logic of self-adaptive discrete PI controller. The adoption of self-adaptive PI controller helps in addressing the cross-regulation problem, which is more common in multiple output converters. The proposed design is employed for several R-loads on 12V and 24V, mimicking the presence of EV lights, dashboard sensor unit, warm conditioning pumps, air conditioning pumps, and other electronic appliances inside the communication and infotainment units. The CI-SIDO Buck converter with self-adaptive PI controllers is simulated using Matlab-Simscape platform and the same has been implemented in hardware with 16-Bit digital signal processor TMS570LC4357 TI unit.
