Analysis of Solvers in MATLAB for Power Converter Applications

A major concern of the existing transportation system is air pollution caused by the burning of fossil fuels. This problem can be minimized using battery electric vehicles (EVs) in which a battery is used as the main power source. The role of a DC-DC converter in modern-day EVs is highly significant in terms of fast charging and high efficiency. In this paper, a buck converter is modeled using volt- and amp-second balance equations and simulated using solvers, such as symbolic math toolbox (syms) and ordinary differential equations (ODE 45 and 23s). The accuracy of the solvers is calculated and the average time taken by the converter is analyzed through the performance advisor tool in MATLAB software. ODE23s provides the quickest response, while ODE45 has the highest accuracy.
