Research on the Lookup-Table Method of Power-over-Fiber System for Maximum Power Point Tracking

Power-over-fiber (PoF) system has a superior electromagnetic insulation property, which can power sensors in high voltage and strong magnetic environments. When the load and laser intensity of the system change, the traditional perturbation and observation (P&O) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm has a slow response speed and significant steady-state fluctuation. Therefore, this paper proposes a MPPT algorithm based on the lookup-table method. This method first collects the maximum power point (MPP) under different laser intensity and load conditions and forms a lookup-table. When the system is working, it obtains the value of the operating point through the lookup-table. When the laser intensity or load changes, this algorithm effectively increases the speed of the system's tracking of the MPP and reduces the output voltage fluctuation. The gallium arsenide cell model was built in MATLAB/Simulink and a simulation experiment of the algorithm was carried out. The results show that under the conditions of sudden changes in laser intensity and load resistance, the lookup-table method improves the response speed by 6.7 times and reduces voltage fluctuations by 34% compared to the traditional method.
