Correlation between Respiratory Rate and EEG Signals Based on Wireless EEG Acquisition System

Studies have shown that breathing is closely related to emotion regulation and cognition. Electroencephalography (EEG) records changes in electrical waves during brain activity, which can reflect mood swings and brain cognition. Previous researches have described that breathing is coupled with EEG signals. The aim of our study was to investigate the effects of different breathing rates on EEG signals. In this study, we first designed an experimental paradigm to guide EEG acquisition. After band-pass filtering, 9 kinds of EEG features were extracted from the 64 channel EEG signals. The paired T-test of at different breathing rates showed significant channels. The experimental results showed that the occipital region was the activated brain region corresponding to fast breathing, and there was no difference between slow breathing and normal breathing.
