A Multi-mode Wideband Dual-Polarized Antenna Element for Base-Station Applications

This paper presents a ±5° dual-polarized antenna with enhanced bandwidth for band of 1710-2690MHz and international mobile telecommunications (IMT) applications. The components of the proposed antenna include two cross dipoles, four parasitic patches, two integrated baluns and a reflector. With strong coupling of the dipole and feeding structure, the coplanar parasitic patches broaden the impedance bandwidth by introducing new resonances. The antenna achieves a wide bandwidth of 61.8% from 1.42 to 2.69GHz with >14dB return loss, and the isolation is greater than 33dB. In addition, the realized gain is higher than 7.2dBi and cross polarization discrimination (XPD) of more than 28dB is achieved.
