Optimal Network and Application-Aware End-to-End Slicing in Next-Generation Networks

Next-generation wireless networks viz., Fifth Generation (5G) networks pave the way for innovative opportunities for industry verticals with ramifying requirements. The 5G networks are looking forward to satisfy end users’ disparate Key Performance Indicator (KPI) requirements. Network slicing is the key facilitator in 5G as it ameliorates data rate and reliability, decreases transmission delay. In this paper, we propose a KPI-Based slice allocation scheme, which is practically deployable, wherein it bestows users’ necessities in terms of both network and application parameters with priority. We have conducted extensive simulations and verified the usability of the proposed scheme. We have compared various network and application metrics using KPI-Based slice allocation scheme with proportional-fair scheme. We have demonstrated that proposed scheme outperforms the latter one in terms of throughput, latency, and fairness.
