Radio Interference of UHV AC Transmission Line under Rainfall Conditions

Radio interference(RI) is one of the electromagnetic environmental effects associated with high-voltage AC transmission lines, closely related to corona discharge. It tends to increase under rainfall conditions. Previous research on RI of 1000 kV ultra high-voltage AC(UHV AC) transmission lines under actual operating conditions has been severely lacking, with insufficient investigation into RI variations under different rainfall conditions. In this paper, we analyze the test data of RI under rainfall conditions at three test points located below three operational 1000 kV UHV AC transmission lines. The characteristics of RI variation under different rainfall processes are summarized, and the statistical patterns of RI are examined. Furthermore, a novel RI prediction method considering precipitation is proposed. The findings of this study contribute to a deeper understanding of RI behavior of transmission lines under various rainfall conditions.
