Cryostability of HTS Magnet Stacked by Annular Plates With Bath/Gas-Cooled Modes

Comparing with conventional low-temperature superconductor (LTS), the high-temperature superconductor (HTS) has higher temperature margin and critical current in strong magnetic field at lower temperature. Particularly, the HTS magnet has advantages over the LTS ones below 30 K. There are three types of cooling modes, bath-cooling, gas-cooling and conduction cooling. This paper focuses on the former two types of cooling modes used for HTS magnets. HTS magnet is alternately stacked by REBCO annular plates, copper plate and insulating films. With established thermal models of the HTS magnets, the size of the copper plate and the number of cooling holes in the perforated copper plate are determined numerically so that the architecture of both types of HTS magnet can be stable in both of bath- and gas-cooling modes. The results are benefit for stable operation of the compact HTS magnets with both cooling modes.
