Lighting up Adorsho Char: A solar PV Based Energy Harvesting System for a Remote Island of Bangladesh

Solar energy is a promising and environmentally sustainable energy option that offers a feasible and economically efficient solution for providing electricity to off-grid and remote places in Bangladesh. This study aims to comprehensively examine the viability of deploying and utilising solar energy on Adorsho Chor, a remote island located adjacent to the Feni River in Bangladesh. The study utilises a simulation-based methodology, including the software tools PVSOL and PVsyst, to obtain meteorological data, simulate solar panels, and estimate the energy yield. In this study, the LG330N1C-A5 solar PV module was selected, together with the SUN2000 12 KTL M2 inverter and the LUNA2000-5KW-E0 battery, both manufactured by Huawei Technologies, to ensure the integration and efficiency of the system design. In our investigation, a total of 240 solar modules were employed to simulate and assess energy yield. The evaluation conducted in this study consisted of four separate panel orientations, which comprised both mono-facial and bifacial configurations. The research conducted encompassed a comparative examination of several configurations, evaluating significant metrics like annual photovoltaic (PV) energy output, specific production, and performance ratios. According to the findings of the study, the maximum annual photovoltaic (PV) energy output recorded was 129,607.9 kilowatt-hours (kWh). This noteworthy result was obtained for bifacial panels under specific parameters, namely a tilt angle of 25 degrees and an azimuth of 180 degrees, which led to a favourable specific production value of 1,631 kWh per kilowatt-peak (kWp). Furthermore, a thorough examination of the monthly energy variation for each orientation was undertaken in order to aid in making well-informed choices regarding sustainable energy solutions in this isolated area.
