Numerical Modeling of Electromagnetic Levitation of Metal

Levitation melting of metals has special advantages over other melting methods, since it provides high purity of the resulting refractory and chemically aggressive metals and alloys due to the melting conditions without crucible and control of the gas atmosphere. The article presents the results of numerical simulation of levitation metal melting at different values of currents of the upper and lower coils of the inductor to determine the optimal ratio of current densities, at which a drop of liquid metal is stably suspended. Numerical modeling was carried out using open-source software Elmer, OpenFOAM and EOF-Library.
