Optimization of the Narrowband Receiver Noise Figure by Selecting Current-Driven Passive Mixer Parameters

A generalized method for calculation of the current-driven passive mixer noise taking into account the impedances of the low noise amplifier (LNA) and the transimpedance amplifier (TIA) is presented in this paper. The contribution of the noise of the LNA, switches, and the TIA to the output noise is calculated. The output impedance of the LNA and the input impedance of the TIA are taken into account making the calculation results more accurate for more designs of LNA and TIA. As a result, the noise figure of the narrow band receiver can be estimated by computing parameters of the LNA, switches, and the TIA. The optimization of this noise figure by selecting the current-driven passive mixer parameters is presented. The results of calculation have been verified by simulations.
