Using the Umbrella-Type Engines to Improve the Characteristics of Irrigation System Pumping Units

The development of an engine design for a pumping unit of irrigation systems is considered; umbrella, suspended and semi-umbrella engine layouts were considered as design options. The electromagnetic, ventilation, thermal calculations, as well as well as the calculation of the dynamics and strength of the main components of the synchronous motor, were performed. The main technical problems have been solved: reducing the length of the motor shaft and reducing the beats and vibrations of the unit; reduction of the weight and size indicators of the engine, and, accordingly, a decrease in material consumption and ensuring a lower cost; increase in engine efficiency and reduction of ventilation and mechanical losses; increase in electromagnetic loads of the engine in reduced dimensions. It is shown that the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the generator can be significantly improved by using the umbrella arrangement of a synchronous salient-pole electric machine.
