Remote Packet Monitoring: Real-Time Network Analysis from Anywhere

Analyzing remote network packet data can help improve network performance, enhance security, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. It's very important to monitor the network, especially in critical systems to identify the source of network issues, such as slow performance, connectivity problems, and network congestion. By switching the network interface to promiscuous mode, one can collect these packets using a packet sniffer program like Wireshark or tcpdump. In this mode, the network interface captures the contents of all packets as they pass through it, allowing for the study of their contents. But it's not possible to monitor the target if the IP address of the target is not known or if the target uses Virtual Private Network (VPN). The objective of the proposed methodology is to monitor and analyze remote network traffic without knowing the IP address of the target. A program was developed to run on the target computer, which sends the network data to the data base. MongoDB data base was employed to do so. Additionally, a web application using React and Node.js assists the user in monitoring the data of the remote computer. The program that was developed to sniff packet data was made to run on a remote computer and it was monitored to test the validity of the work and expected outcomes were observed.
