Electrode Engineering of Nano-pillar Based CdS/CdTe Solar cell

With an inventive design that integrates electrodes on the same plane and back side of the device, the workfunction of electrodes is modified from 4.8 to 5.9 with the goal of improving the photovoltaic performance of a Nanopillar(NP) based n-CdS/p-CdTe solar cell. The investigation was conducted using TCAD Silvaco, semiconductor device simulator based on physics. By varying the work function, 2 points are observed to have a better performance than others. One peak corresponds the effective collection of electrons (cathode side collection) and the other corresponds to the effective collection holes (anode side collection).
