Nanomaterial-Based Antenna Study for mmWave Applications

Wireless communication technology is always evolving, providing the best service to the user. During the evolution process, the following generations function at a higher frequency spectrum than their predecessors. The frequency shift has a lot of impact on the design and performance of any device. An antenna is one of the major components of any wireless communication system. As the operational frequency increases, the antenna's size lessens. The selection of material used to fabricate the antenna becomes important. The material characteristics have a lot of impact on the performance of the antenna including size, radiation pattern, and efficiency. The study of antennas based on nanomaterials has attracted a lot of attention lately. This work includes the design and the performance investigation of a micro-strip patch antenna(MPA) using two materials namely copper and graphene. Graphene performs marginally better than copper-based patches, particularly when it comes to antenna gain, according to a comparison study between the two materials.
