Design of Earthquake Simulation Model and Flood Detection System for Alert and Warning Using IoT

Recent floods in Kerala and Meghalaya and earthquake in Kathmandu has driven the authorities to look for an efficient way to detect the calamities and provide alert earlier. Earthquake and floods affect the human life and environment adversely and cause enormous damage and losses every now and then. Due to these calamities, there has also been an increase in death rates of human life and fauna. Therefore, the creation of a real-time system that issues warnings about such tragedies is necessary. The proposed system uses sensors to track the earthquake tremors and water level and send an alert signal to the authorities using GSM modem, which is interfaced with NodeMCU (ESP8266) microcontroller. MPU6050's accelerometer is used to measure the seismic vibrations. The water level in a river or dam is measured using a float sensor or water level sensor. The proper authorities are notified through SMS along with the GPS coordinates of the impacted region, and residents of flood-and earthquake-prone areas are notified via mobile app.
