Design of Low Noise, High Sensitive Front End Electronics for the Charge Readout from Silicon Photomultiplier Detector foR Future Space Exploration Programs

The detection of low energy X-rays in the space exploration programs is a key to determine various scientific information for e.g. mapping of elemental composition of the planetary bodies. Scintillation detector along with the Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) is used for the development of the circuits for the detection of low energy X-rays. The design of the circuits is carried out keeping in mind the range of output charge of the SiPM. The circuits have been designed, simulated and realized in the lab which detects < 0.5 Pico Coulomb (pC) charge. The circuits presented here are charge sensitive preamplifier (CSPA) using RC feedback technique, and Gaussian shaping amplifier consisting of high pass and low pass filters to improve the signal to noise ratio. In the test results, 59.54 keV energy from 241Am radioactive source is measured with 10 keV lower energy threshold.
