Real-time Measurement of Elevator Rope Slippage Using Streaming Images Tracking Model

Elevators are the major means of transportation in high buildings. For safety consideration, a regular maintenance is a routine required to carry out in a certain period of time. Presently, such a task still heavily relies on personnel experiences, particularly for the inspection on the elevator rope health situation. For this reason, this study develops a streaming images tracking model to implement a real-time elevator rope slipping measurement instead of human operation. The formulation of the proposed model is established based on the formed ellipse geometric shape from captured images. Taking a predefined reference point, the ellipse is averagely segmented into 360°. The rope slipping distance can be therefore calculated using the circumference formula. The outcomes of arithmetic operations can be sent to the cloud database instantly and monitored using graphical user interface (GUI) on line on web. The experimental results confirm that the proposed model is superior in term of rapidness, accuracy and robustness.
