Surrounding Light Intensity Detection web app with OpenCV and Streamlit

In today’s time with AI (Artificial Intelligence), we are trying to give a sense of intelligence to machines. In many computer vision, and IoT applications a machine needs to understand whether the surrounding light intensity is bright or dark. This intelligence is essential for an IoT product to do various jobs such as Switching on and off the light. This paper presents a prototype web app to detect surrounding light intensity and classify it into two labels ‘bright’ and ‘dark’. The Web app was built using streamlit python framework and the algorithm was designed using the OpenCV computer vision framework. The web app was tested with various people of different age groups and under varied environmental conditions. The experimental results showed that the app is giving fairly accurate results. The algorithm proposed is capable to be used in the production process of any IoT application for detecting surrounding light intensity.
