Predict the Temperature Rise using Facebook’s Prophet Model

Global warming is by no means a new phenomenon. It is the term given to the rise of Earth’s temperature on a long-term scale. It has also been established that this occurs due to the accumulation of Green House Gases like Carbon Dioxide and Methane in the atmosphere and the subsequent absorption and entrapment of solar radiation by them. But a lesser-known fact is the release of greenhouse gases due to food and feed production. This is exactly what this paper intends to explore in this study. Four different datasets from various sources ranging from United Nations FAOSTAT database to NASA’s very own country-wise temperature database were taken in this study. The datasets were explored in a cause-effect manner performing the necessary preprocessing along the way. Finally, we used another comprehensive database generated by NASA consisting of temperature anomalies of the world based on months of every year and performed a Time-Series Forecasting using Facebook’s Prophet model to predict the temperature rise in the coming years.
