Comparison of elevator drives Regenerative Energy using DC-DC Converter with Battery Energy Storage Systems in High raise buildings

In spite of an enormous rise in global population, buildings with multiple floors have become necessary and mandating the installation of an elevator. The commercial construction industry in India has expanded significantly in recent years. In this study, the actual regenerative energy of geared and gearless elevator drives is examined. Elevator regenerating drives utilize the lift's operating conditions and the difference in weight between the vehicle and counterweights to convert the force of gravity into electrical power. The other supporting elevator devices, such as the emergency rescue device, emergency light and fan (CAR cabin), communication system, and alarm, are then directly powered by the regenerative energy. When the power goes out, an emergency rescue device is employed to run the elevator and the Light & fan are essential for passengers in the cabin, as well as communication and alarm to alert While the power is off, all devices should work in battery mode and the battery should charge while the power is on. The batteries are now being charged by the grid. By using the regenerative braking energy, the excessive wasted power across the dynamic braking resistor is rescued and saved to the battery if more energy will be generated could be resent to the grid using inverter. The key objective of this research is to better understand and predict how much energy may be saved by using both drives in various operations such as an energy recovery function in both regular and dynamic scenarios. The result shown that gearless machine has given 3 times more regenerative energy compared with geared machine. The gearless machines yielding more efficiency, less weight and less maintenance than the geared machine and it is concluded that for "regenerative mode" also gearless has given the better performance than the geared machine. The presented analysis has been experimentally validated, and the results are explained.
