Exploring Motivations for Learning Computer Networks with Hands-on Approach

In general, subjects like computer networks, network security, and ethical hacking become difficult to learn (teach) and practice, for both professors and students. This article walks through eight different practical tasks that illustrate the principles underlying computer networking protocols. This study considers of twelve exercises using various tools. Examples of NSlookup theory, DNS concepts, packet delivery mechanisms, public/private addressing, and the unsecured portals are the first six exercises which are considered here. The remaining exercises such as the role of Web servers, packet capture analysis using Wireshark, password recovery using Burp Suite, and penetration testing using Kali-linux are explored in this study. The prevalent consensus is that the beginners find it extremely difficult to grasp computer networking protocols and network security concepts. The main goal of this publication is to investigate practical activities that will help readers understand the principles of computer networking. This kind of research encourages self-learning, which allows the research community, teachers, and students to focus more on practice.
