The Art of Deception: Novel Graphical User Authentication Scheme Using Illusion Images

User authentication is a crucial component of information security and can be accomplished through various ways. Strong text-based password authentication techniques have been used for ages, and they are normally expected to provide some level of security. But users may be forced to write down their passwords on paper or even store them in a computer file because it can be difficult to commit such strong passwords to memory. The use of graphical authentication in place of text-based authentication has been suggested as a way to combat such tendencies. This has been prompted by the fact that people naturally tend to remember visuals over words more readily. In this research, we present a novel challenge-response authentication scheme based on three types of illusions. i.e., Literal Illusion, Cognitive Illusion and Physiological Illusion. And 4 sub-categories of Cognitive Illusion i.e. Cognitive Distorting Illusion, Cognitive Paradox Illusion, Cognitive Ambiguous Illusion and Cognitive Fictional Illusion. To find out how satisfied users are with the suggested scheme's performance and usability, an experimental research and survey have been done. The study's findings demonstrate that the proposed system is secure, user- friendly, and can withstand typical password attacks such as brute - force attempts and shoulder surfing.
