Incoherent Scattering from an Object Above a Rough Surface

An analytical second order solution for the ensemble average incoherent scattering from an object above a rough surface is presented. The four-path model is applied as a first order scattering approximation used to decouple the scattering from the surface and the object. The Kirchhoff integral and the small slope approximation are also applied to quantify scattering from the rough surface. Under these assumptions, the mean radar cross section can be expressed in terms of first, second, third, and fourth order interactions in relation to the rough surface. This presentation focuses on the derivation and evaluation of the first and second order contributions.
