Vertical Axis Wind Turbine on Highway Application in Bangladesh: Design and Performance Assessment

Wind energy is a zero-carbon renewable energy resource. But due to the geographical position and effective design of wind turbines, harnessing wind energy is still a challenging task. To harness wind energy efficiently, the design and implementation of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) are necessary. The aim of this research is to design and analyze the performance of VAWTs as a sustainable energy solution in highway applications of Bangladesh by utilizing the regional wind patterns. The design and installation of the proposed roadside VAWT system allows local renewable energy generation and minimizes dependence on traditional power resources to minimize fossil fuel usage. Wind speed, direction, and turbulence are studied to improve the proposed turbines performance. Analyzing the geometry and blade shape of wind turbines has demonstrated improved efficiency, stability, noise, and aesthetics. The performance of the novel VAWT system is also validated and simulated using QBladeCE software.
