V2V and V2I Communication Using CAM Protocol in V2X Environments

In recent years, there has been a significant surge in the manufacturing of autonomous driving cars. Various car manufacturers are engaged in fierce competition to bring the best autonomous vehicles to the market. Companies like “Tesla” have successfully demonstrated the feasibility of autonomous driving, greatly impacting the automotive industry. Two key technologies that have played a pivotal role in autonomous driving are “ADAS” and “CV2X”. DENM (Decentralized Environmental Notification Message) is a message format utilized in Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS) to facilitate the exchange of information about environmental hazards or situations among vehicles and infrastructure. The CAM (Cooperative Awareness Message) messaging format is an integral part of cooperative intelligent transportation systems (C-ITS) that facilitates the real-time exchange of information between vehicles and infrastructure units. It allows vehicles to share their status, position, and basic information with nearby entities, enabling cooperative and coordinated actions. The main objective of CAM is to provide situational awareness to nearby vehicles and infrastructure units in real-time. Upon closer examination, it becomes evident that the CAM and DENM messaging formats share similarities, but their functionalities are distinct. Both messaging formats are highly efficient and offer significant benefits. We have implemented V2V and V2I communication using CAM message format to ensure connectivity and message exchange between V2V and V2I.
