Detection of Brain Tumor Using Slotted Microstrip Patch Antenna Via Scattering Parameter in the ISM Band

Tumor and brain cancer is one of the most common causes of mortality worldwide. Because of the miniature size of a brain tumor and the few drawbacks of the existing methods to detect it, determining its location at an initial stage is challenging. In this research, a polygonal-shaped slotted Microstrip Patch Antenna is designed to operate at the frequency of 2.45 GHz, known as ISM band. , with a parallel feedline employed to feed the radiating patch. Rogers RT5880 (Lossy) is used as the substrate of the antenna. CST Studio Suite was used to create a brain phantom with six layers of Skin, Fat, Skull, Dura, Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF), and Brain (white matter). A tumor with varying radius of 5 mm and 10 mm was implanted in the human brain. In order to identify the presence of a tumor, the antenna underwent testing on a head phantom with and without a tumor.
