A Wearable IoT Based Assistive Device to Aid Communication With Hearing Impaired

This paper presents the design and development of a wearable IoT based haptic assistive device to aid communication with hearing impaired (Divyang). The device helps to initiate communication between family members and Divyang using a switch module and vibration module. For the proof of concept, BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) based wireless devices are realized and tested. The key feature of the proposed assistive device is that it is simple to realize and use and inexpensive thus enabling better accessibility to the Divyang. Several practical considerations like miniaturization, low power consumption (battery operated device) have been taken into account in the prototype. The prototype has been succefully tested for its operation.
