Indigenous Development of 15kW RF Power Amplifier for 1.5T MRI Scanner

RF Power Amplifier is an important sub-system of any MRI scanner. It essentially excites the protons to a high energy state. For imaging purpose hydrogen nucleus, a single proton plays a vital role in imaging due to its abundance in water and fat. The signal captured during the transitions from excited state to low energy state is processed in the spectrometer for image formation. The high power RF amplifier for Indian MRI has been designed and developed at 63.87 MHz. This paper primarily focuses on the indigenous development of solid state 15 kW RF pulse amplifier. The RF power amplifier along with necessary monitoring and interlock circuits has been integrated successfully in the system and images were obtained from integrated Indian MRI.
