Design of Water-cooling Jacket for Multi-stage Depressed Collector of High-power Travelling Wave Tube Applications

The objective of the water-cooling jacket of Multi-stage depressed collector (MDC) is to continuous extract heat during the aging and testing of the high power helix Travelling Wave Tube (TWT) before packaging. The water-cooling jacket for MDC is design to remove the heat up to 250W in continuous wave (CW) mode operation of the TWT. The inlet water condition like water inlet pressure and temperature, flow rate ware optimized to meet the above design requirements. In this paper author has presented detailed design, thermal-structural analysis of water jacket and computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis of water cooling channel. The result of the analysis i.e. maximum temperature is validate with the acceptable temperature limits.
