Optimization of Beam Shaver Section for Helix TWT

Beam Shaver Section (BSS) has been designed and simulated for a high-efficiency Ku band helix traveling-wave tube (TWT). Required cathode flux linkage and magnetic field value at beam throw point have been calculated analytically as well as using 3D EM simulations. A study is presented wherein effects of first and second magnet of BSS section on TWT output power and helix interception current are simulated. Effect of magnet treating tolerance on TWT output power with respect to second magnet is also simulated. All simulations were carried out in the commercially available CST MWS software. Simulation results have been experimentally verified.
