A Novel Multiband Patch Antenna Based on Quasi-Mandelbrot Fractal Geometry

In this paper, a quasi-Mandelbrot fractal geometry is proposed and applied to the design of patch antennas. An equation for calculating the operating frequency of the patch antennas based on the quasi-Mandelbrot geometry is figured out according to the fractal and topological geometry theories. Simulation and experiment results demonstrate that the proposed patch antenna has up to seven resonant frequencies with a good gain at each resonant frequency. The quasi-Mandelbrot fractal geometry opens a new approach for designing multiband patch antennas whose number of bands can be much more than that of multiband patch antennas based on traditional approaches.
