Compact Microstrip Patch Antenna with slotted patch and parasitic elements for X Band Applications

A compact microstrip patch antenna with a slotted patch is presented for X Band Applications. The ground plane is partial in nature and contains three parasitic elements. The proposed antenna has dimensions of 12m$\mathrm{m}^{\star}$12m$\mathrm{m}^{\star}$1.5mm and is operational in the frequency range of 6.95-12.88 GHz (having a bandwidth of 5.93 GHz), therefore encompassing the X Band (S-12 GHz). The antenna is fabricated on an FR-4 (glass epoxy) substrate with a relative permittivity of 4.3 and a loss tangent of 0.025. At 12. 8GHz, the designed antenna has a maximum gain of2.59 dB in the working bandwidth. The design simulations were performed in CST Microwave Studio software, and the corresponding return losses and parameter study has been explained in this paper.
