Wide Swath full Polarimetric SAR: Limitations & Techniques to Overcome

Polarimetric SAR datasets are used by researchers in various target interpretation and classification studies. The scattering mechanism of any given target can be completely characterized by Full/Quad Polarimetric SAR datasets hence making it a specific requirement for various applications. For polarimetric analysis on a large scale, researchers require wide-swath polarimetric datasets. EOS-04 (Earth Observation Satellite-04) is the first spaceborne satellite capable of providing full polarimetric datasets with a swath of up to 168km in ScanSAR mode. However, full polarimetric acquisitions in EOS-04 are with certain limitations like azimuth resolution and incidence angle. Various ways to overcome these limitations are discussed in this paper which can be the guiding factors for future full polarimetric SARs.
