Pencil Beam Scanning Antenna for SCATSAT-1 Scatterometer

The twin pencil beam scanning antenna system is used by ISRO’s SCATSAT-1 satellite, which carries the ocean scatterometer payload described in this paper. It addresses requirements, setup, design features, and RF performance. The desired radiation pattern is achieved by using a prime focal reflector along with a primary feed that employs the dominant mode (TE 11) and higher order modes of a circular waveguide. The high-power dual-channel microwave rotary joint for continuous power transmission from the stationary part to the rotating antenna system is also included in the study. The reflector antenna along with twin feeds deliver the anticipated electrical performance.
