Development of Microwave Magnetic Components using LTCC Technology with embedded Barium Hexaferrite Material

In this paper we demonstrate a magnetically tunable microstrip patch antenna and an SIW based Isolator developed by successfully embedding Barium Hexaferrite disc in the middle of LTCC (Ferro L8) layers. By forming a cavity inside the LTCC substrate and placing a sintered ferrite disc in the cavity, a ferrite embedded LTCC substrate was fabricated. Microstrip patch antenna which has a center frequency of 10.6 GHz shows tunability of 400 MHz (3.77%) by applying magnetic field of 0.5 Tesla to this substrate. SIW based Isolator having isolation of 35 dB at 31 GHz was also designed on this substrate.
