Dual Circular Polarized Compact Antenna in S-Band for Drone Communication

The design of a dual CP antenna for S-band applications 2-3 GHz is proposed in this paper. Pair of cross dipoles are used to achieve dual circular polarization. To improve antenna gain, circular fence monopoles are added to the ground and cross-slot is inscribed on the top patch. Surface current shows that RHCP is achieved at two different frequencies for this design. The axial ratio (AR) achieved with this antenna less than 3 dB for a beam coverage of ± 30° for ensuring a reliable link with the ground station. This application is used for data transfer in drone based RCS measurements.
