A 13-Level Switched-Capacitor-Based Common-Ground Boosting Inverter

In this brief, a novel high-gain multilevel inverter with a common ground connection specifically tailored for photovoltaic dominated high-frequency AC applications is presented. The proposed topology utilizes only ten switches, two diodes, one floating capacitor (FC), and three switched-capacitors (SCs) to generate a 13-level output voltage with triple boosting gain. By employing a series/parallel technique, self-voltage balancing of the SCs is achieved, enabling sensor-less operation. Additionally, the FC is inherently self-balanced at half of the input voltage due to the circuit structure and symmetrical operation. The proposed topology stands out for its lesser conduction losses, as there are reduced number of simultaneously conducting devices at each voltage level. Further, to showcase the advantages of the proposed topology, a comprehensive comparative analysis is presented. To validate the feasibility and operability of the proposed topology, simulation and experimental evaluations are performed, and the results are elucidated.
