A Comprehensive Model for the Electrification Railway Systems Considering Dynamic Load and Variable Train Speeds Using PSCAD/EMTDC

The electric railway systems have several advantages over other transportation methods due to its ability to interact with smart grids. A comprehensive model of the electrified railway system is a challenge many parts need to be accurately modeled such as the traction dynamic load and the drives. Therefore, this study presents a model of the entire electrified railway system. The simulation of the traction motors, the detailed dynamic load, and the train movement are introduced in the proposed model. The proposed model comprises the supply source, the Scott transformers, the overhead wire system and the auto transformers. The motor is emulated as an induction machine, with motor speed regulation achieved through vector control. The proposed model is implemented using PSCAD/EMTDC. The simulation outcomes are presented, demonstrating the precision of this approach in simulating traction load, driving mechanisms, and train motion. These findings underscore the potential of the suggested model as a valuable resource for planning and designing systems for the electrified railway system.
