Black Box modeling of HVCB using ATP draw

Extinction of electric arc is a complex process in which there is an influence of electric, magnetic, thermodynamic, and chemical phenomena. The effective interruption of electric arcs is essential for the reliable operation of high-voltage circuit breakers in power systems. Black box models give mathematical description of the electrical characteristics of the arc. These types of models do not comprehensively capture the underlying physical phenomena of an electric arc, but they provide a valuable approach for characterizing the electric behavior of these arcs. This paper delves into the modeling of electric arcs and the examination of high-voltage circuit breaker using black box models, such as Cassie, Mayr, and Schavemaker. A customized MODELS block was used in order to represent the circuit breaker model within ATPdraw. A comparative assessment of current and voltage indicators across various operational modes is demonstrated.
