Intelligent Energy Management System for Off- Grid PV-Battery System using IIoT Device

This paper presents an Intelligent Energy Management System (IEMS) specifically designed for off-grid PV-battery systems. The system seamlessly integrates an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) device with PV arrays and multiple battery units. The primary objective is to achieve intelligent management for generated power, battery systems, and load distribution, all facilitated by a single, cost-effective device. This optimization is achieved by implementing various strategies, including Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), battery State of Charge (SOC) balancing, charge/discharge control, and adaptive load management. The IEMS utilizes real-time data gathered from diverse sources, including the PV array, battery systems, field sensors, and environmental conditions. This data is collected through the IIoT device, enabling remote monitoring, data analysis, and informed decision-making facilitated by a cloud-based platform. To evaluate the system’s performance and validate its efficacy, a comprehensive case study is executed utilizing a combination of MATLAB simulation, the ThingSpeak IoT platform, and the IIoT device. The simulation model captures the dynamics and behaviors within the integrated PV and battery systems, thereby facilitating analysis and comprehensive evaluation of its operational performance. The simulation results demonstrate the IEMS’s remarkable capability to optimize energy production, storage, and consumption, leading to substantial operational enhancements for off-grid applications. Moreover, the simulation study affirms the IEMS’s potential as a dependable and sustainable energy management solution.
