Automated Monitoring of Healthcare-Associated Infections in Operation Theatres Using IR Camera

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) pose a significant global challenge for healthcare facilities. Ensuring disinfection of operating rooms is crucial to preventing the spread of infections and diseases. However, the current manual monitoring process is time-consuming and prone to errors. To overcome these challenges, we propose an automated monitoring system that uses an infrared (IR) camera to capture operating room images during the disinfection process. Using a machine learning algorithm, captured images are analysed to ensure the correct execution of the disinfection process and to detect areas that may have been missed or inadequately disinfected. This system offers real-time monitoring, alerting, and data analysis functionality, leveraging the IR camera's capabilities and integrating various components. Implementing this automated monitoring system can enhance patient safety and reduce the risk of infection transmission in healthcare settings by providing a more efficient and accurate method for monitoring disinfections of operating rooms.
