Quality Enhancement in SMEs Through Six Sigma Analysis

Six Sigma is an approach that utilizes the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) methodology to identify, analyse and improve product quality. This research focused on the defect attributes of towel goods sized 30×70 cm, with Critical to Quality (CTQ) encompassing missed stitch, lack precision of weave, and messy weaves. In the Define phase, the product object was defined, and a SIPOC diagram of the towel product was constructed. The Measure step uses attribute data as primary data, providing a DPMO value of 124,074 with a sigma level of 2.66. Cause-and-effect study demonstrates that stitching failures were caused by human, machine, material, method, and environmental factors. In the Improve stage, the focus of improvement was targeted at environmental issues. The 5W+1H approach was used in repair planning, ensuring that the corrective measures adopted may successfully address the root causes of product defects. Improvement plans were performed by providing ventilation to lower room temperature and adding lights to increase lighting. The implementation of this changes was expected to increase the comfort of working environments so that it may considerably improve the quality of towels.
