Integrating Sustainable Practices for Effective Solid Waste Management in Peshawar: Overcoming Challenges and Promoting Environmental

This research study focuses on the assessment of solid waste management in Peshawar, one of Pakistan's largest cities, with a population of approximately 1.97 million people. The city faces significant challenges in managing its solid waste, resulting in inadequate collection and disposal services. This study examines the current state of solid waste management in Peshawar, including waste generation, collection methods, storage practices, and the recovery of recyclable materials. The socio-economic classes in the city are also evaluated based on residential locations and family incomes. The research findings highlight the need for an effective waste transfer system and improved household garbage pickup to increase the recovery of recyclables. The improper management of municipal solid waste negatively impacts the economy, ecology, and human health, leading to various diseases and environmental pollution. The study emphasizes the importance of addressing these challenges and implementing sustainable waste management practices in Peshawar.
