Understanding The Parameters of Influence in Public Space Design

When it comes to any design, there will always be a process taken by the designers to create it. What differs from each project is the pathway taken to reach the results. That considers the background knowledge and existing state of the other projects. Moreover, each project carries a unique identity due to the approach chosen. A designer can take several methods and pathways to reach the finished design. The paper explores one of those methods that relies on identifying the parameters that influence the design of the public park–focusing on the sustainable and phenomenological parameters impeded in the public park's design. The paper highlights this process, which was used in the design of the Al-Saya public hub. The methodological approach was divided into a literature review stage focusing on two case studies with similar themes to identify the sustainable and phenomenological influences. The second stage focused on on-site analysis to identify the physical influences. The third stage involved interviews to identify the people's needs for the space. The study concludes that identifying and comparing the design parameters through their compatibility helps the decision-making process during the design phase and creates a unique identity for the project.
