An Energy Efficiency Model for Energy Management of a Smart Building Based on System Dynamics Approach

Enhancing building energy efficiency represents a key avenue for diminishing energy consumption while upholding service quality and energy accessibility levels. The energy efficiency of a building hinges upon factors such as lighting technology, the effectiveness of household appliances, the efficiency of the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system, and the integration of renewable energy sources. This research endeavors to construct a model for evaluating the energy efficiency of an intelligent building, incorporating both electrical and thermal photovoltaic systems to fulfill a portion of the building's energy requirements. Additionally, a variety of consumption technologies have been employed, alongside meticulous building orientation, to implement a natural lighting strategy. To commence, meteorological data is collected and the photovoltaic system's output is computed using the SAM (System Advisor Model) software. Subsequently, a system dynamics approach is adopted to simulate the proposed model through the use of Vensim software. The energy efficiency is optimized by CPLEX solver in GAMS software. The outcomes indicate a noteworthy increase in energy efficiency following the implementation of energy efficiency initiatives, such as the adoption of energy-saving lightbulbs and high-efficiency household appliances.
