Design of CMOS-Based Ring Oscillator for VCO Application Using Neural Network

In recent years, the use of wireless transmission has increased tremendously. In these systems, voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO) are commonly used as clock generators for many applications. Ring oscillators is a major component of VCO which is manufactured using CMOS preferred to LC oscillators because of their reduced size and increased tuning range. The CMOS-based circuit design is complicated because of the non-linear relationship and lack of a mathematical model between the input parameters. Ring oscillators can be used as VCO by tuning the frequency values. In this, an MOS capacitance tunes the frequency by changing the capacitance and drain current through the inverter stages. It is impractical and hard to design such circuits through conventional methods. Therefore, this paper uses a neural networks-based model to design the circuit, and output is predicted. It is observed from the results that the output of the designed ring oscillator is approximately equal to the predicted values using the neural network.
