Investigation of Multipole Transverse-Flux-type Switched Reluctance Motor

Switched reluctance motors (SRMs) consist of only stator and rotor cores, and windings. Thus, they have a simple and robust structure, and low cost. However, torque density and efficiency of SRMs are generally inferior to those of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs). This paper focuses on transverse-flux-type SRMs (TFSRMs), which have larger torque than conventional radial-flux-type SRMs (RFSRMs). This paper discusses a relationship between the number of poles and torque using a simple magnetic circuit.
